February News
To quote from the song, “American Pie” by Don McLean,
“February made me shiver with every paper I deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep, I couldn’t take one more step.”
Well, so far it’s been warmer than usual and we have all good news.
The first half of the year is completed. It is amazing how quickly a school year passes. Students and staff are working hard in preparation for the CMTs in March. Our Basketball teams are in full swing. We enjoyed a great Pep Rally on the 22nd of January.
The Community Service Club is raising money to help the people of Haiti. The NJHS will induct new members in February. The High Schools held orientation open houses for the students and parents of the class of 2014. Busy, Busy, Busy!
Quarter two report cards go home February 5th. Please pay particular attention to the teacher comments. Course recommendations for grade 8 and grade 9 are listed on this report card. Counselors will present two developmental guidance lessons to grade 8 students in early February. The purpose of the lessons is to distribute the High School course of studies booklets and explain the scheduling process. All grade 8 students are asked to review the booklet with their parents, develop a four year plan for desired courses, and select electives for grade 9. Counselors will meet with students to schedule. All schedules will be sent home for review and approval.
Grade 7 students will be scheduled as soon as the eighth graders are finished. Grade 7 students will be asked to select 3 of 4 possible electives for grade 8. They choose from Art, Music, Technology, and Family and Consumer Science. Band, Orchestra, and Support students choose one course.
On a more serious note, Danger of Failure letters will be mailed home to parents of students with GPAs below or close to the 4.00/C- average required for promotion. If you receive a letter, please call the Counselor assigned. Working together
as a team, we can help our students get back on track.
The Guidance Department wishes you a happy Ground Hog Day and Valentine’s Day. Think Spring!!!
