What happens at JFK after the final bell rings? The following list contains clubs, groups and activities available to all JFK students. We encourage students to join. Be involved!!
 
BARNES & NOBLE BOOK GROUP
Ms Connick, Ms Bartok, Ms Dynia, Ms. Cepelak
The Barnes & Noble Teen Book Club is looking for enthusiastic readers! The students select a Book-of-the-Month to purchase at 20% off. After individually reading, the group gets together at school for pizza and lively discussion. Each meeting is held on the third Thursday of the month, 2:35 P.M. – 3:10 P.M. We also gather for book movies and author talks.  $2.00 fee for pizza and drink.
Limit 25 students
 
THE JFK CRAFTS CLUB
Ms. Siana, Ms. Bartok
The Arts and Crafts club is designed for students who enjoy artwork & crafts. Members will meet monthly after school to create thematic works of art to complement the holidays & seasons. We encourage new students to join! You can even join monthly.
 
CHEERLEADING
Mrs. Hayes
Cheering for the boy’s and girl’s home basketball games. Participating in pep rallies during the school year. Offered Fall/Winter
 
CHESS CLUB
Mrs. Wiley
This club meets starting in the winter in 19R. Listen for announcements for start date.
 
COLOR GUARD
Mrs. Kulpeksa
The color guard performs flag routines to complement the marching band. This group performs in both the Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day parades. Meets Mon. & Wed.
in yellow wing.
 
DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION CLUB
Mr. Guertin
Dance Dance Revolution is a dancing simulator game that has taken the world by storm. Students play this video game after school for physical fitness, coordination, and a great time. Maximum of 10 students because of equipment limitations. Meets every other Thursday. Spectators welcome.
 
DS CLUB
Mrs. Collen, Mrs. Millar
Come bring your DS and have fun playing Pokemon. Meets every Monday in 24W in the Fall.
 
FACS CLUB
Mrs. Tangari, Mrs. Freeman
Students will create non-clothing projects through sewing and quilting. Meetings will be held once or twice a month in 38 Black depending on the project. A fee may be charged for supplies when necessary.
 
FITNESS CLUB
Mrs. Estes, Ms. Fadziewicz
Do you want to get in shape, be healthy and have fun? Well, come and join the FitnessClub. This is a girls and boys club, and will include activities such as workout videos, discussion on eating healthy and active games (such as potato sack races, relays and dodge ball). 
 
FLUTE ENSEMBLE **just added**

Flute Ensemble will begin on Wednesday, December 2nd and will continue on Wednesdays until March 31st.
 
GAME CLUB

Do you need a place to relax and unwind after a day of school? Do you like being with your friends playing games? Then the Game Club is for you! Please join Ms. Scordato, Mrs. Page, and Mrs. Beebe in 26W on Wednesday afternoons.

The homework club meets each Monday afternoon in room 25R. 
 
HOMEWORK CLUB for BARNES TEAM

Students are invited to stay after school weekly until 3:10 P.M. to complete homework in a quiet environment and practice CMT skills.
 
JFK COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUB

Are you interested in reaching out and making a difference in the lives of others? Do you enjoy helping people and get great satisfaction from giving rather than receiving? If so, plan on attending the first meeting of the J.F.K. Community Service Club on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, in the auditorium after school. This club meets every Wednesday all year and carries out a different community service project each month. Come see what we're all about or see Mrs. Hargraves in 19B with questions.
JFK’S NEVER-ENDING STORIES BOOKCLUB
Mrs. Reading
Students will gather in the JFK Library’s cozy setting to enjoy refreshments while discussing and recommending books they are currently reading. Students will also learn how to write book reviews that will be posted on the library’s web site and shared with their friends and family.
 
METACOMET ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CLUB
Mrs. Munroe, Mrs. Dunham
Students will meet to do Science and have fun. The scientific process will be investigated along with gaining knowledge of our environment and how it is studied in our real world. Saturday trips are scheduled with our sister school in New Britain Ct. Come meet new people and enjoy our great outdoors and learn! Meetings will be held on Thursdays. Wait for announcements.
 
MURAL CLUB
Mr. Scioscio
Mural Club will meet every Wednesday starting Oct. 14th. This club is designed for students who have an interest in the visual arts. Students will learn the skills necessary for creating large scale works of art, while playing a crucial role in their school community. Students will design and execute the backdrop for JFK’s annual school play, along with leaving their mark behind by developing murals on the walls of JFK.
 
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Fitzpatrick
Eighth graders chosen for grade point average, evidence of service to school and community, leadership and good character, do service projects within the school and community. 
Offered November through June following an induction ceremony.
 
OFF-SEASON RUNNING CLUB

This club is open to anyone wishing to stay in shape over the winter months. Come dressed for the weather and to run!! Held in March
 
PERCUSSSION ENSEMBLE
Mr. Power
This club meets Thursdays after school and students need to audition.
PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
Mrs. Gilbert
The photography club meets every Thursday. Students bring in their own camera and practice using its different settings and functions. The group explores the outside area of JFK capturing intriguing, interesting, unique or artistic pictures of nature. Student also take pictures inside the building that can perhaps be used for the yearbook. In addition student will learn how to use different types of cameras and how to take different kinds of pictures. 
 
PLAYING CARD CLUB
Mr. Iacobucci
This club learns and exchanges rules of playing card games. Games such as crazy eights, gin, cribbage and other games. We will be meeting on Thursdays starting in January. We will meet in 14R.
 
PRIME TIME SILENT
READING CLUB
Mrs. Andrychowski, Mrs. Burt, Mr. Grigley, Mr. Delaney, Mrs. Dickinson
Students need to bring a book in order to gain entrance through the door.   Late bus passes are issued to all of those who require one. This club meets one Wednesday of the month (10/14, 11/18, 12/9 for the first half of the year) in room 22B. You don’t have to attend each meeting to be a member. We hope to see you there!
 
SCRABBLE CLUB
Mrs. Sproha, Mrs. Holmes, Mr. Andersen
The scrabble club is a great way for students to increase vocabulary and strengthen spelling skills while having fun!
This non-competitive atmosphere allows students to collaborate and develop word choices in a friendly environment. 
Our main goal is to have fun!
Meets monthly in 11B starting in Oct.
 
SOLO CLUB
Mr. Sullivan
The solo club meets weekly after school Mondays Feb. – April in the chorus room. It is open to any student wishing to learn and perform a solo from the vocal repertoire (pop, broadway, gospel, jazz….). The goal of the club is to prepare student singers to perform solos.
 
STUDENT COUNCIL

Students are selected as officers and homeroom representatives and plan all student activities throughout the year. Meetings in 23W. Elections held in October.
 
TENNIS CLUB
Dr. Edelstein, Mrs. Fawthrop
Students who just “love” tennis can join the Tennis Club. The club meets Monday until the snow. Listen to announcements or see Dr. Edelstein in his Office across from Guidance for more information.
 
ULTIMATE FRISBEE CLUB
Mr. Zawodniak, Ms. Bishop
This fast-paced game combines football, soccer and basketball with a frisbee! This club will start in April and run through May.
 
VOLLEYBALL CLUB
Mr. Evans, Mrs. Berube, Mr. Sullivan, Ms. Mgrdichian
This club is designed for all students of all abilities. It provides an opportunity for students to play volleyball in a recreational setting. Listen for the announcements in the spring.
 
WALKING CLUB
Ms. Langevin, Mrs. Lavelle, Mrs. Burt, Mrs. Keane
The Walking Club will meet periodically for walks. Our goal is to have fun while enjoying light physical activity and nature. Meets on Wednesdays.  Listen to announcements throughout the school year.
 
THE NEW WAVE YOGA & MEDITATION CLUB
Mr. Barnes, Mr. Cressotti, Ms. Nalbandian, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Fitzpatrick,
This club combines breathing and meditation techniques with yoga moves to strengthen your body, mind, and spirit. We will be meeting on Wednesdays starting in January. All are welcome. Listen to announcements in late fall for the starting date.
