PHYSICAL EXAM REQUIREMENT FOR SPORTS PARTICIPATION IN GRADES 7-12
To participate in any sports at the Varsity, JV or Freshmen level, students are required to have a physical exam, conducted by their health care provider (physician, physician's assistant, APRN or RN), on record in the Nurse's Office.
This exam must have been done within one (1) calendar year of the end of the particular sport in which the student plans to participate and is good for one year (for example: a physical done on 8/21/00 is good until 8/21/01).
This physical must be on record PRIOR to try-outs: there are no exceptions.
If a student's exam expires in the middle of the particular season, he or she may begin the season but must have an updated physical by the expiration date.
JFK Middle School Athlete Physical Drop Off dates
Please submit updated physical forms to the nurse's office (not the coach) by Wednesday, September 6 or before the first try out. Any student that is not cleared with a current physical will not be able to participate. Each student must also be academically eligible.
Please check out the Enfield Public Schools website at www.enfieldschools.org. A lot of information is under Athletics. If anyone has any questions, please call the Athletic Department at 253-6524.

Pay to Play at JFK and Cross Country: A parent’s survival guide

While I am relieved that JFK has retained its sports, I am concerned at the amount of money families have to come up with for next year. I am concerned that pay to play may reduce numbers of student-athletes who normally would participate if pay to play did not exist. I am also concerned, but not as much that pay to play will not enable student-athletes to order custom sweats, tees and hats that all of our teams at JFK have done for some years now. What to do?

It would be an excellent idea if families came up with a “Pay to Play” jar. Any spare change, dollar bills, birthday or holiday money would most certainly help to defray the cost. You can also start a “Custom Sweats, Tees and Hat” jar, but again, that may be secondary to the “Pay to Play” jar. You can actually save a good deal of money if you are aware that the jars are sitting on the kitchen counter.

Given this new reality of pay to play, I am easing my requirements for cross country. I will still hold time trails, but now runner will have to complete the two mile course in twenty minutes. Please keep in mind that running over the summer is VITAL.

I am the only coach for cross country, and my concern is supervision. I run with the athletes, and I cannot be in two places at once. Runners who tend to be slower will not be in my line of sight at all times. This is why training pre season is so VITAL.

Please fee free to contact me about running advice and training. You can email me at bzawodniak@enfieldschools.org or call my voicemail at 763-8855 follow prompts to leave a message for a teacher, then dial 760-7300.
